This Girl Quit Her Job at Microsoft By Singing a Song on YouTube [Video]

Set to the tune of Don McLean's American Pie, Karen Chang sang an epic song announcing her resignation from Microsoft that included quips about making "cells and numbers dance", "long lines of code" and where she's going next. Everyone who resigns from their job should be forced to do a song and dance number like this. [YouTube via Neatorama] More »

The Durham Performing Arts Center will present Bring It On: The Musical on April 17-22 in its 2,700-seat, state-of-the-art theater, in the American Tobacco District in downtown Durham, NC. It is a up-close-and-personal behind-the-scenes look at the world of competitive cheerleading as dramatized on the silver screen in the teenage comedy Bring It On (2000), directed by Peyton Reed and starring Kirsten Dunst, and its four direct-to-DVD sequels: Bring It On Again (2004), Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006), Bring It On: In It to Win It (2007), and Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (2009).

Thumbnailing the plot for the video release of Bring It On (2000), Universal Studios Entertainment writes:

?The Toro cheerleading squad has spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that?s sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. But for newly-elected team captain, ? the Toro?s road to cheer glory stumbles when she discovers their perfectly choreographed routines were stolen from a hot hip-hop squad across town. Now the squad must scramble to find a new routine to compete in this year?s competition.?

According to the press kit for the current national tour of Bring It On: The Musical, which will play April 17-22 at the Durham Performing Arts Center:

?After a nationwide search of over 3,000 performers, the producers of Bring It On: The Musical [announced] the cast for the [current] National Tour, which launche[d] at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles on Oct. 30, 2011.

??Assembling this extraordinary company has been an incredibly exciting ? and thorough ? endeavor,? said Tony Award-winning director/choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler. ?We found an amazing group that sings, dances, stunts and cheers. They are a talented group of newcomers, led by two dynamic leading ladies. I can?t wait for audiences to see them.?

?Leading the cast are Taylor Louderman and Adrienne Warren. Louderman, playing the role of Campbell, is a 20-year-old newcomer from the University of Michigan. Warren, previously seen in the National Tour of Dreamgirls at the Ahmanson Theatre, portrays Danielle, a role she originated in Bring It On: The Musical?s developmental production at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta [from Jan. 15 to Feb. 20, 2011].

?Ryann Redmond, a 2011 graduate of New York University, recreates the role of Bridget that she originated in the Alliance Theatre Production. Elle McLemore (Disney?s ?Suite Life on Deck?) plays Eva, and Jason Gotay (Broadway?s Rising Stars and Rent) stars as Randall.

?Also starring are Ariana DeBose (Hairspray, ?So You Think You Can Dance?) as Nautica, Gregory Haney (Memphis) as La Cienega, Neil Haskell (?So You Think You Can Dance?) as Steven, Janet Krupin as Kylar, Kate Rockwell (Legally Blonde) as Skylar, and Nick Womack as Twig.

?Additional cast members include Calli Alden, Nikki Bohne, Dexter Carr, Shonica Gooden, Haley Hannah, Rod Harrelson, Casey Jamerson, Dominique Johnson, Michael Mindlin, Adrianna Parson, and Bettis Richardson.

?The ensemble also features some of the nation?s most skilled competitive cheerleaders. Their combined achievements include over 25 national and 50 team titles in gymnastics and choreography. They were selected in collaboration with Varsity, the global leader in competitive cheerleading. Those members include Antwan Bethea, Danielle Carlacci, Michael Naone-Carter, Courtney Corbeille, Dahlston Delgado, Brooklyn Freitag, Melody Mills, David Ranck, Billie Sue Roe, Sheldon Tucker, and Lauren Whitt.

Cheerleaders foes become friends in "Bring It On: The Musical" (photo by Joan Marcus)

?Bring It On: The Musical is the explosive new musical comedy that raises the stakes on over-the-top high school rivalries. Set against the world of competitive cheerleading, this powerhouse new show hilariously proves that winning isn?t everything when it means losing something ? or someone ? you really care about. Bring It On: The Musicalcombines an exciting fresh sound, gravity-defying choreography, and a thrilling story to create a total theatrical event worth cheering for.

?Bring It On: The Musical unites some of the freshest and funniest creative minds on Broadway with libretto by Tony Award-winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), music by Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), lyrics by Broadway lyricist Amanda Green (High Fidelity), and music supervision by Tony and Grammy? Award-winner Alex Lacamoire (Wicked). The production is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Andy Blankenbuehler (In the Heights).

?Bring It On: The Musical is produced by Universal Pictures Stage Productions / Glenn Ross; Beacon Communications /Armyan Bernstein and Charlie Lyons; and Kristin Caskey and Mike Isaacson, executive producers.

?Members of the artistic design team that help bring this production to life are David Korins, set designer; Andrea Lauer, costume designer; Jason Lyons, lighting designer; Brian Ronan, sound designer; Charles G. LaPointe, hair designer; and Jeff Sugg, video designer.

?When the musical comedy premiered in its developmental production at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta earlier this year, Wendell Brock of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution called Bring It On: The Musical ?one high-energy drink with fiercely funny writing, catchy hip-hop tunes and an explosively original mix of singing, acting, dancing and cheer.? Audrey S. Belle of AOL.com raved that Bring It On: The Musical ?is guaranteed to be everything you wished for, nothing like you expected, but exactly what you will love!?

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough Kiss on Dancing With the Stars!

With their undeniable chemistry, Maria Menounos and Derek Hough sure know how to heat up Dancing With the Stars ... and the celebrity gossip rumor circuit.

The subject of much did-they-or-didn't-they-kiss speculation a couple of weeks ago and the continued target of dating rumors, there was no doubt this week.

Maria and Derek full-on locked lips during their salsa:

Although Bruno Tonioli asked if they needed a room and if he could join in (would you expect anything less?) Carrie Ann Inaba thought the kiss was too much.

"Dance is all about the illusion of passion," she chided the pair, who earned 27 out of a possible 30 points for the routine. "Don't go at it in front of everyone!"

Or do. Really, no one is complaining here at THG. And we thought Allure's pic of Maria Menounos nude would be her hottest moment of the week ...

Here is How Affiliate Marketers Do So Well Online

There are a lot of companies right now who are trying desperately to find the right kind of affiliate program for them to get started in and they want to get involved in one that is actually going to help them meet their long term commitments in terms of the kind of revenue they want to be making. Any company wants to make sure that they are following the kind of guidelines that are fitting the right criteria so that they are going to be able to market their products effectively to the kind of consumer base they are targeting.

After the company and their team of affiliate marketers have gone and done their job of getting all the appropriate information they need about the products, the next course of action is to do all the research necessary. What they do here is they make sure to look at the landing page and also the sales page, and there are only five guidelines you have to follow to make sure that you are doing this correctly.

There aren't a lot of details that get covered by different affiliate marketers, but the fact is that if you don't follow these guidelines you might not get the commission you need for each sale.

The first thing that you should always want to see whenever you are visiting a landing page is making sure that there is a good and free phone or 0800 number that you can get into. There are a lot of companies who will spend a great deal of time and money making sure that their landing page is perfect.

There is a lot of effor that should always going into the landing page, and making sure that there is a 800 number available for customers is going to make it far easier for the customer to the sales page but you don't really want to see this on a landing page as an affiliate because if they call the number to make a purchase then you won't get the sale.

So steer clear of landing pages that have numbers on them. Something else that you want to look for on a landing page for a product you are promoting is a special offer box, and this is something that can definitely mess with your affiliate sales with this product.

The reason some merchants include a special offer box on their site is due to the fact that they use this as a method to avoid paying affiliates or to pay them less than they expect to earn from a sale. You as an affiliate also should be concerned with making sure that you yourself can actually test the shopping cart to make sure it is working properly, and is set up for a sale to happen.

Bank Stocks: A Play on the Economy

economic growthAs the economic recovery continues, the key benefactors will be the big and regional bank stocks, which benefit from growing businesses, real estate activity, and consumer credit. Banks represent the fuel driving the economic growth?a reason why I?m positive on the bank stocks.

The reality is that the nation?s banks have steadily charted a recovery since the collapse of Lehman Brothers in late 2008 that drove bank stocks in a downward spiral that inevitably required hundreds of billions in bailout infusion from government bailouts in order to survive.

In my view, this chaotic event in bank stocks was an opportunity that only appears once in a while. It was clear in my mind that the U.S. government could not afford to let the major banks fail, as it would have likely triggered a mass selloff in the U.S. For example, there was absolutely no way the government would allow the Bank of America Corporation (NYSE/BAC) or Citigroup Inc. (NYSE/C) to fail, as this would drive down banking competition nationwide, which would not be good for competition and for confidence in the U.S. bank sector.

A look at the KBW Bank Index (BKX) chart shows the steady upward move in the index, up over 43% since October 2011. Money was made and I feel there will be more gains coming.

government bailouts

Chart courtesy of www.StockCharts.com

I continue to like the progress of the bank stocks, but remain concerned with some of the bad stuff on the balance sheets and the government?s new restrictions on banking activities as set by the Volcker Rule to restrict some speculative activities.

The progress of bank stocks has been evident in the fourth-quarter and first-quarter earnings season. Banks are a good barometer of the country?s economy.

JP Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE/JPM), the top bank based on assets, beat on earnings per share (EPS) estimates after reporting $5.4 billion, or $1.31 per diluted share, well above the consensus estimate of $1.16 per diluted share. JP Morgan raised its quarterly dividends and announced a $15.0-billion share repurchase program. The rise in dividends will help to attract institutional and retail investors are looking to add to dividend income from bank stocks.

Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE/WFC) beat on both revenues and EPS after reporting $0.75 per diluted share. $0.03 above estimates on five percent year-over-year revenue growth.

Both of the banks attributed part of the results to a stronger business, which I think will only strengthen further as the housing market improves. The same goes for jobs. More jobs mean increased spending and consumer banking demands.

My favorites are the big bank stocks over the smaller regional banks, which are tied to the health of a specific region of the country instead of the entire country. For instance, regional banks in California, Arizona, and Florida may continue to hurt.

I view pullbacks as an opportunity to accumulate bank stocks, because I remain longer-term positive on the big banks to drive higher as the economy recovers and expands.

The technology sector also continues to be a favorite, which you can read in Look at Small-Cap Tech for the Biggest Potential. (PC032112)

Conan Had Hologram Rappers Before It Was Cool [Video]

While the internet was busy drooling over the appearance of a hologram Tupac at Coachella yesterday, a certain late night talk show host was not so happy. Conan O'Brien proved last night that he, in fact, was the first to utilize the technology. Not only that, he actually employed the hologram. That is one boisterous intern. Alice Eve Offers Hint To Her 'Star Trek 2' Role

'The Raven' actress reveals to MTV News she spends 'a healthy amount of time in the makeup chair — though not as long as Spock.'
By Kara Warner

Much like the lock and key that all "Star Trek" plot details were kept under during filming the first time around, the same goes for the untitled "Trek" sequel. We know which key players are back in place, alongside new additions Benedict Cumberbatch, as the unidentified villain, and actress Alice Eve, but we don't know exactly how the sequel's story will unfold.

When MTV News caught up with Eve recently during the press day for her upcoming period thriller "The Raven," we attempted to find out a few more details about what character she might be playing in asking how long she spends in the makeup chair each day before filming.

"I'm a healthy amount of time in the makeup chair — though not as long as Spock," Eve revealed. "We were filming until very late last night, and I know that's all I can say. It's a top-secret operation; it's like a war."

Although Eve is new to the "Trek" family, two of her co-stars are very familiar faces, Cumberbatch and Simon Pegg, with whom Eve worked on "Starter for 10" and "Big Nothing," respectively. When asked how the reunion has been, Eve broke out into a wide grin, saying, "Both of them I've worked with before, and it's a true, true pleasure to see them again. Really fun."

Eve went on to tease that her fans will be surprised by "a few things" about her performance in the film and re-emphasized the fact that she's having a blast on set. "I'm having a lot of fun, and it's a very special experience to be on J.J.'s [Abrams] movies," she said. "He's a real good leader."

The British beauty has equated the atmosphere on set with going to camp or school. "When there's a group of people who you can spend time with and work with and get to know, a real good experience, it's kind of like going back to university or something, when everyone has got the same objective," Eve told MTV News. "There's a lot of energy, and it's a nice thing to be a part of that group. That's the thing that excites me most about it. Obviously, there is a huge legacy there with 'Star Trek' and the fanatics, so hopefully they'll be satisfied."

Check out everything we've got on "Star Trek 2."

We're live from NAB 2012 in Las Vegas!

Image

Three months ago to the day, we were packing up our CES trailer and making a run for the airport, expecting another year to pass before our return to Sin City. But now, as the National Association of Broadcasters' annual trade show has begun overlapping with the consumer electronics market -- from a gear perspective, at least -- we've decided to make our way back to the desert, calling this oasis home for another week in 2012. If you're a high-end camera buff, this is the show for you, with Canon, Sony and RED introducing products that are sadly priced out of reach of photo enthusiasts, but carry mass appeal among professionals with million-dollar equipment budgets, and a need to shoot with the latest and greatest digital devices. It's yet unclear what else we may see at this year's NAB, but rest assured that we'll be scouring the halls of the LVCC, bringing you updates from the floor throughout the week.

Protip: Use the 'NAB 2012' for the latest show news and hands-ons.
