Cougs Lose Coach To Oklahoma
(WSU Athletics) PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University Head Soccer Coach Matt Potter resigned to accept the head coaching position at the University of Oklahoma, the Sooners announced, Tuesday.
In nine seasons with the Cougars, Potter racked up a school-record 88 victories, posted a 55.8 winning percentage and led Washington State to three NCAA postseason appearances (2008, 2009, 2011). The back-to-back trips to the NCAA Championship in 2008-09 were a first in program history and the Cougars advanced to the second round in 2009 and 2011.
Average home attendance more than doubled under Potter and Washington State drew a school-record 856 fans per match in 2011. In the classroom, Cougar student-athletes earned 103 all-conference academic awards, including 16 first team selections.
"Matt Potter's record at Washington State speaks for itself," WSU Director of Athletic Bill Moos said. "Under his leadership, the Cougar soccer program reached new heights and has a strong foundation in place moving forward. Cougar Athletics wishes Matt and his family the best of luck in the future."
