Denny's Restaurants Thanking Military Members This Memorial Day
Augusta - Starting Friday, Denny's restaurants are doing their part to make our troops feel a little closer to home, but they need your help
Denny's all across Maine are launching a Memorial Day letter writing campaign. If you want to drop a note of thanks to those serving overseas, Denny's will mail it for you. "I think it's a great idea," said Jim Clark, who manages the Denny's in Augusta. "It's just a way to show a little appreciation to our folks overseas who are serving the country. Let then know we're thinking of them back here at home. I think it's a great concept."
Paying tribute to our troops is something that hits a little closer to home for some at Denny's. Chum Cram, a server at Denny's on Civic Center Drive in Augusta, served in the Coast Guard and his nephew is currently serving overseas in the Marine Corps. "To just have any mail at all, just to be able to open up a letter is great," he said. "I received a couple of those types of letters when I was there. It just sort of brings you back. There is another place, another time, there's another thing going on other than what you're in at the time."
There are six Denny's in Maine. Each one hopes to collect 1000 letters over the holiday weekend.
